14世紀買家決定買畫的內容和材料，金色和藍色非常受歡迎因為象徵財富和社會地位，有題問顏料特色：貴卻不會褪色，後來人們喜歡黑色不想高調顯示自己財富，因此藍色顏料不在廣泛使用了。後來學徒與畫家一起畫畫，買家要求畫家至少要畫中心主要部份，意味人們不在炫富，其實只是換個方式
